Hydrolases

Hydrolases are a group of enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of a wide range of biological molecules, including carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, and proteins. They do this by adding a water molecule to the substrate, breaking the bond between the substrate molecules and producing smaller molecules.

All of the following are considered hydrolases:

  • Amylases
  • Lipases
  • Nucleases
  • Proteases
  • Phosphatases
